Sun Damage

Long-term, cumulative ultraviolet (UV) exposure gradually weakens the skin’s structural foundation. UV radiation breaks down collagen and elastin, two essential proteins responsible for skin’s firmness, strength, and elasticity. As these supportive fibers deteriorate over time, the skin may appear more wrinkled, rough, dull, or uneven in tone and texture.

Sun Damage

UV exposure also stimulates melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells in the skin, leading to visible discoloration such as sun spots, freckles, and melasma. Both natural sunlight and tanning beds emit ultraviolet A (UVA) and ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, each contributing to photoaging and long-term skin damage.

UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and are a primary driver of premature aging, contributing to collagen breakdown, fine lines, and loss of elasticity. UVB rays primarily affect the outermost layer of the skin, causing sunburns and playing a significant role in the development of skin cancer. Together, these wavelengths accelerate visible aging and increase long-term cancer risks.

Kind words from our patients

“Dr. Spring and her staff were upbeat, attentive, and caring. They saw my anxiety prior to my procedure and took an extra moment to talk through it with me, which made me feel like they care about me as a whole person. I’ve never felt anxious prior to treatment before so this extra step really hit home.”
