Education & Advanced Training

Her background reflects a blend of scientific rigor and disciplined training, spanning Chemistry, classical piano performance, Italian art history, and military aviation.  Dr. Spring graduated magna cum laude from Albion College prior to attending Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Before residency, Dr. Spring served as a U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon, completing her internship at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, followed by flight surgeon training in Pensacola, Florida.  She then spent four years with both Navy and Marine Corps squadrons where clinical decisions were made in high-stakes, resource-limited environments, an experience that continues to shape her disciplined, precise approach to patient care.

Dr. Spring completed her dermatology residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, training alongside world leaders in laser-based scar revision and complex wound healing. She was selected as Chief Resident and received the Hollander Award for clinical and teaching excellence.

Dr. Spring went on to complete dual fellowships in Mohs Micrographic Surgery & Cutaneous Oncology and Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery at SkinCare Physicians in Boston, one of the country’s most established and respected programs with faculty from Harvard, Dartmouth, and Brown University.  There, she developed advanced expertise in reconstructive surgery, tumor pathology, laser technologies, and aesthetic rejuvenation.  Dr. Spring is among a small group of dermatologists nationwide—and the only physician in the Midlands—with fellowship training in both Mohs surgery and cosmetic dermatology.

Military Service & Commitment to Veterans

As a Naval Flight Surgeon, Dr. Spring deployed across the Pacific, supporting operational and humanitarian missions in the Philippines, Thailand, and Japan, including Operation Tomodachi following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.  She later served as the sole dermatologist for Operation Continuing Promise, delivering care in Honduras and Guatemala alongside other Navy and host nation physicians and humanitarian relief organizations.

At Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, she directed Project CARE (Comprehensive Advanced Restorative Effort), helping combat veterans with traumatic, surgical, and burn scars restore both function and confidence through advanced reconstructive and laser techniques.

Dr. Spring is a three-time recipient of the Navy Commendation Medal, a two-time recipient of the Navy Achievement Medal, and was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal.

Dr. Spring serves as an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.  She co-edited a widely referenced dermatology textbook on laser and energy-based devices, available in six languages and distributed globally, and has authored peer-reviewed publications in JAMA Dermatology, Dermatologic Surgery, and Lasers in Surgery & Medicine, with textbook contributions in cosmetic dermatology and facial reconstruction.  Dr. Spring is an invited speaker at national and international meetings, with a focus on scar management, laser technologies, advanced aesthetic techniques, and skin cancer treatment.

Kind words from our patients

“Dr. Spring and her staff were upbeat, attentive, and caring. They saw my anxiety prior to my procedure and took an extra moment to talk through it with me, which made me feel like they care about me as a whole person. I’ve never felt anxious prior to treatment before so this extra step really hit home.”
